As we announced on Friday, the MetalSucks reader-voted Best Beard in the History of Metal Bracket kicks off today! Unfortunately, we — well, mostly Axl — fucked up some of the details. He is currently being made to listen to the new Vampires Everywhere! album on repeat as punishment. While he suffers through that, please note the following changes to the bracket below:
- For Round 1, there will actually be FOUR matches per day, not two as originally stated.
- For Round 2, there will be two matches a day, not one. There will not be one match a day until we reach Round 3.
- We accidentally put The Absence vocalist Jamie Stewart’s name next to a photo of The Absence guitarist Peter Joseph, leading some readers to wonder which member of the band is actually competing. It’s Peter. Again, Axl fucked up, and he is very sorry, and we’re seeing to it that he’s made to feel even more sorry.

But both men have something in common besides their chosen instrument: they have grown some truly epic chin pubes. But whose chin pubes are epicer? You decide!
JUSTIN FOLEY VS. BILL ROBINSON
As we understand it, Decrepit Birth vocalist Bill Robinson is basically a homeless person by choice, and he seems to be doing everything in his power to look it. On the other hand, Killswitch Engage drummer Justin Foley’s beard grew to such a legendary length that the band actually designed an entire t-shirt around it. Which musician has the superior face forest???
KIRK WINDSTEIN VS. SEAN Z.
It’s The Battle of the Southern Gentlemen! In one corner, we have New Orleans’ Kirk Windstein, of Crowbar/Down fame, and his long, distinguished grays; in the other corner, we have Atlanta’s Sean Z., vocalist for Dååth and keyboardist for Chimaira, whose beard has grown to such proportions that it is said to house its own hydroponic garden of delights. Who will emerge victorious?
NEIL FALLON VS. LIAM WILSON
At the height of its growth, the beard grown by The Dillinger Escape Plan bassist Liam Wilson may have actually been larger than that of Clutch frontman Neil Fallon. But Fallon’s is so damned dark and intimidating, it moved to Norway and started a black metal band! So whose beard is more metal? Vote below!
