DEF LEPPARD’S NEW VERSIONS OF “ROCK OF AGES” AND “POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME” COMPLETELY SUCK

We hate it when bands re-record old songs and release them as new. What’s the point? It’s usually a gimmick and a cash-grab, and the new versions always suck.

In Def Leppard’s case all three are true; the group has re-recorded “Rock of Ages” and “Pour Some Sugar on Me” for use in the terrible-looking Broadway-inspired feature film Rock of Ages (in theaters June 15th). ‘Cause ya know, Joe Elliott sounds way better at 52 than he did at 25.

Getting the rights to use such hallowed recordings in films is really, really expensive, so I’m guessing the film’s producers asked the band to re-record these songs to skirt having to pay massive licensing fees. Which is all well and good. Except, as you might imagine, these new versions are sterile, bland, and absolutely horrible.

Both new versions can be streamed at Noisecreep and they’ll be available for purchase on iTunes at midnight tonight. This is the first time ever Def Leppard studio tracks will be available for purchase digitally.

Yes, you read that right: the morons that handle Def Leppard’s business have left literally hundreds of thousands of dollars on the table over the past decade by forcing would-be fans into stealing all of their music. Brilliant all around, hearty golf claps everyone! But don’t worry, fans will be FLOCKING to iTunes to buy these wonderful new rendition at midnight… everyone is saved!
