SOMEONE NEEDS TO BOOK MONSTROSITY ON A TOUR ASAP

Monstrosity haven’t released an album since 2007, but did put out a DVD, Live Apocalypse, last month. And hopefully they’re going to do lots and lots of touring to support that DVD soon. And I’m not saying that because I’m dying to see Monstrosity live. I’m saying that because if the band is busy, hopefully drummer Lee Harrison won’t have time to concentrate on his solo project, Lavoizen, in which he plays all the instruments. Because Lavoizen are fucking awful.

For example, take “Waiting on the Sun,” which is about a 1980 bridge collapse. The song has no verses or choruses or bridges (pun not intended) or any of the other structural elements we normally use to identify a piece of non-experimental music — it’s just the same thing, over and over and over and over and over again. FOR TEN-AND-A-HALF MINUTES. Luckily for us, though, Harrison also made a video for the song, which is so re-goddamn-diculous it’s amazing that Virgin Steele aren’t in it. It’s almost worth watching the entire thing just to get some sense of how crazy Harrison must be to have thought this was a decent idea.

If you somehow made it through that whole thing and you’re still here, you may also not-at-all-enjoy this cover Harrison did of Fleetwood Mac’s “Gold Dust Woman.” Not only did he completely butcher a really good song, but he also made yet another totally ridiculous video, this one consisting mostly of home video footage of a bunch of really scary looking rednecks getting drunk. Alas, this one is a mere three minutes and eleven seconds long:

I’m reasonably certain I’m gonna have nightmares about this guy tonight.

So thanks, Lee Harrison. I’ve been sleeping a little too well as of late.
