NEILSTEIN SOUNDSCAM: GOATWHORE’S BLOOD IS THE MASTER
New releases from Goatwhore, Orange Goblin, Earth and Beneath the Massacre all placed in the Top 100 of the “Current Hard Music Albums” chart on Soundscan last week, while recent records from Van Halen, Lamb of God, Foo Fighters, Lacuna Coil and more just keep on truckin’. Also, a startling realization that Nickelback is more popular than Van Halen. Those numbers and more after the jump:
1 VAN HALEN – DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH
Last week: 57,876
Cume: 246,424
With a 69% Week 2 drop this album is right in line with the norm these days, but at nearly 1/4 million sold overall it’s about as big of a seller as we’ll probably see all year this side of Nickelback. By contrast, Nickelback sold around 79,000 units in Week 2 of their most recent album. Wow — Nickelback is outselling Van Halen. Sad, sad times we live in.
2 FOO FIGHTERS – WASTING LIGHT
Last week: 23,116
Cume: 719,859
134% increase over last week! Has to be the Grammy effect, right?
5 LAMB OF GOD – RESOLUTION
Last week: 7,488
Cume: 83,772
Now in its fifth week on the charts, Resolution will probably cross the 100k threshold in another 3-4 weeks. Pretty impressive for such a heavy band.
10 LACUNA COIL – DARK ADRENALINE
Last week: 3,463
Cume: 33,425
Fourth week on. This will quietly tick past 50k some time this spring.
12 GOATWHORE – BLOOD FOR THE MASTER
Last week: 3,256 (debut)
Wow, that’s really impressive for such a brutal band! Gotta be Goatwhore’s biggest debut ever, right?
13 NINE LASHES – WORLD WE VIEW
Last week: 3108 (debut)
Uh, who?
22 ATTACK ATTACK! – THIS MEANS WAR
Last week: 1,981
Cume: 28,094
Crabcore’s last stand.
43 ORANGE GOBLIN – EULOGY FOR THE DAMNED
Last week: 1,070 (debut)
I think that’s a pretty solid number for Orange Goblin but I’m not sure. This band’s income is probably all about the road anyway.
50 EARTH – ANGELS OF DARKNESS DEMONS OF
Last week: 1,063 (debut)
57 BLEEDING THROUGH – GREAT FIRE
Last week: 845
Cume: 5,076
62 LILLIAN AXE – XI: THE DAYS BEFORE TOMORROW
Last week: 804 (debut)
63 HOPES DIE LAST – TRUST NO ONE
Last week: 723 (debut)
Don’t really care enough about any of these bands to offer commentary… sorry. (imb4 IMN’s say “OMG you don’t like Earth?!?!?”)
70 BENEATH THE MASSACRE – INCONGRUOUS
Last week: 723 (debut)
By all accounts, I should love this band. For some reason I just can’t get into them, try as I may.
74 KNIVES OUT – BLACK MASS HYSTERIA
Last week: 616 (debut)
94 DEVASTATED – DEVIL’S MESSENGER
Last week: 480 (debut)
I don’t hate this record as much as Axl does (I think it’s generic and uninteresting but not especially offensive), but I’m surprised it sold close to 500 copies. There is zero buzz about this band. Zero.
