PIT ROMNEY: MORE FESTS THAN YOU CAN SHAKE A STICK AT
We didn’t have a Pit Romney column up last week, a critical error since HOLY CRAPS SO MUCH HAPPENED! So without further ado, here’s your latest round-up of the goings on in the wonderful world of hardcore festivals!
The bilingual bunch behind Quebec’s sixth Heart Fest recently revealed the full lineup for this three-day event, conveniently sorted by date and set order. How efficient! Two venues in Gatineau, Qc will accommodate the festivities: The Odysée (Friday May 4th – Saturday May 5th) and A.R.G. (Sunday May 6th). The headliners include Defeater, Reign Supreme, Stray From The Path, and 100 Demons, backed by a stupefying list of support acts, including Daylight, Daytrader, Wrong Answer, Soul Control, Expire, Warhound, Perfo, Born Low, Agitator, The Beautiful Ones, Revenge, Enforcers, Your Demise, and Obey The Brave. A couple of major fests announced notable additions to their lineups. The totally-sold-out United Blood just revealed Cro-Mags as a surprise headliner, while the still-shrouded-in-secrecy Black N Blue Bowl threw us a bone by announcing reunited 80s-NYHC punks The Mob would play this year’s event.
Though at first glance it sounds like a Wednesday-night promotion at the strip joint by the interstate, North Carolina’s Breast Fest is actually a pretty solid daylong hardcore event. This year’s edition boasts sets from Cold World, Dead End Path, Foundation, Line of Scrimmage, Overlooked, Power Trip, Reign Supreme, Suburban Scum, Young And In The Way, and a dozen more. Happening May 12th at The Soapbox in Wilmington, the fest has already put tickets on sale and its all for a good cause: boobies.
If you’re the sort that prefers his multi-day music events underground, mysterious, and sorta weird, Philadelphia’s Liberty Fest might be up your alley. With multiple subsequent shows at a handful of venues, this not-exclusively-hardcore fest features a curious, intriguing assortment of bands including Bardo Pond, Brain Slug, Gods & Queens, Hoax, Kim Phuc, Leather, Midnight, Pop 1280, Psychic Ills, and Raw Nerve. If you don’t recognize any of these names, this isn’t for you. If you do, then you’ll be pleased to know that tickets go on sale this week.
Proving that Christian hardcore can play the festival game too, Facedown Fest 2012 made its announcement last week. Split over two nights and two venues, the lineup consists of a slew of metalcore names that Facedown and Strike First devotees will undoubtedly recognize, including War Of Ages, Dynasty, In The Midst Of Lions, xLooking Forwardx, Leaders, Gideon, and Onward To Olympas. Tickets for April 6th and 7th are on sale now.
Lest you think we’re only interested in covering the Big Dawgs, one of the Pit Romney campaign promises is to look out for the smaller-scale events such as Fort Wayne, IN’s Revenge Fest. Taking place on March 10 at Sunset Hall, the daylong showcase will feature sets from Born Low, Everything Went Black, Life After Death, XRepresentX, Ten of Swords, and Warhound, as well as nearly a dozen more acts.
