And now, an imagined conversation between me and my eight year old son in the year 2037:
AXL JR.: Daddy?
AXL: Yes, son?
AXL, JR.: Daddy… I have a confession to make.
AXL: Oh, Junior… did you get into Daddy’s mp3s again?
AXL, JR.: Sorry, Daddy.
AXL: That’s okay, son…
AXL JR.: Daddy… I have a question, though.
AXL: Go ahead, son.
AXL JR.: Well, see… I was listening some old Sepultura…
AXL: Good band. Which albums?
AXL JR.: Well… I like Arise a whole lot! And then, well…
AXL JR.’s voice trails off…
AXL: Go on, Junior.
AXL JR.: Well, see, Daddy, I was wondering… why did Sepultura make Roots?
AXL: That’s… that’s a very complicated question, son.
AXL JR.: But Daddy… Jonathan Davis was on it… it made me feel icky…
AXL: I know, son, I know, I… (sighs) Those were the times. I know it’s hard to understand… but you liked Arise?
AXL JR. nods.
AXL: Any songs in particular?
AXL JR.: “Arise”… and “Desperate Cry.” They made me feel… funny.
AXL: Funny how, son?
AXL JR.: Like…. (whispers) Like I wanted to kill Mommy.
AXL: That’s okay, son. (wistfully) Sometimes, I want to kill Mommy, too.
