SEVENDUST @ THE NOKIA THEATRE, 4/19/2007
Axl and I saw SEVENDUST a month or two ago at the Starland Ballroom in New Jersey on this very same tour, yet I still felt compelled to see them again in New York City last night at the Nokia Theatre. This should speak to just how fucking tight and awesome this band is live. When the boys in Sevendust hit the stage they simply take it over, no questions asked. It matters not that they played an almost identical setlist or that even Lajon’s between song banter was pretty much the same (i.e. “Ya’ll aren’t Sevendust fans, you’re Sevendust family,” and “I can’t believe we’re still doing this 10 years later.”). This band just rips it live, consistently, every single time, night in and night out. Plus, they’re one of the only bands that can get away with doing choreographed jumps without seeming Korny corny. Last night the band seemed even more energized than they did at their Starland performance if that seems possible, and the usually stoic guitarist John Connolly was as into the music as I’ve ever seen him. I wrote a full review of February’s Starland Ballroom show, so if you’re curious about last night’s show… well, just read that one, and imagine it in the Nokia Theatre instead.
