DAVE MUSTAINE IS IN DAN SPITZ’S BAND NOW
Last December Dave Mustaine shocked anyone who was under the impression that he had relevant taste in modern metal by not only endorsing, but announcing his own collaboration with, DeuxMonkey, former Anthrax guitarist Dan Spitz’s horrendous new project.
And now we have good news, bad news, really bad news, and really, really bad news concerning these events:
- The good news is, they’re called Red Lamb now, which is a not-awesome-but-still-improved name for a band. But I have to assume that this new moniker was chosen because GODDAMNIT DAN SPITZ INSISTS THAT HIS NEW BAND BE NAMED AFTER A NOT-VERY-INTIMIDATING ANIMAL!
- The bad news is, Mustaine has apparently joined the band on the regular.
- The really bad news is, Mustaine is apparently the group’s new singer, since original vocalist Wade Black (Crimson Glory, Seven Witches, Leatherwolf) not only quit the band, but also provided “verbal cease-and-desist” which prohibits the group from using any of his lyrics or melodies in their music. Now, Mustaine might also have helped the band write some new songs, which would mean that they now have music which is 100% superior to that which they have released already. But of all the jobs one could hire Dave Mustaine to do, singing is the second worst. (Staying sober still takes the lead.)
- The really, really bad news is that Mustaine once described the project as a hybrid of Disturbed, Soundgarden, and Rage Against the Machine. Does that mean that Mustaine is gonna be rapping and making monkey noises?
Actually, I guess that last part could be considered GREAT news — hearing Dave Mustaine try to rap would be fucking hilarious.
So I guess we’ll see what happens with this.
