SHADOWS FALL SIDE PROJECT BONANZA
Shadows Fall’s Paul Romanko: Still without a side project of his own.
So two of the three current Shadows Fall-related side projects both released new music yesterday, and despite the fact that it is not particularly fair to either band, I am lumping these two projects into one post for the sake of my own comfort and convenience. My apologies to all parties involved.
And so…
- Death Ray Vision, the basically-another-Overcast-reunion outfit featuring Shads vocalist Brian Fair, Killswitch Engage bassist Mike D’Antonio, Overcast/Seemless guitarist Pete Cortese, and some other dudes we’ve never heard of before, just announced their existence to the world last month, but they already have a five-song EP completed and released. It’s called Get Lost or Get Dead, and you can purchase a download of it for five bucks at this location, where you can also stream a song, “Shattered Frames.” If you’ve enjoyed the previous work of all the players involved, it’s hard for me to imagine you won’t enjoy this, too. Then again, this is the internet, so I’m sure some of you will find something to bitch about.
- Dead of Night, which features Shadows Fall guitarists Jon Donais and Matt Bachand, ex-Unearth drummer Derek Kerswill, and, once more, some dudes I don’t really know, have released a demo of another new song, “It’s Over Now,” which you can check out below. As was the case with the last Dead of Night song we heard, it sounds like Shadows Fall at their most arena rockish. Not terrible by any stretch of the imagination, but as someone who likes his heavy heavy heavy, I could live with some more screaming and some less angsty alt-rock vocals. Killer solo, though, and the song is sure catchy as heck fire.
