Album Premiere: Empyrean Sanctum Takes a Dive Into the Mind with “Detachment From Reality”
It’s crazy to think how much we actually don’t know about that thing rattling around in our heads. The human mind is infinitely complex, with each neural pathway leading to infinite possibilities — memories, beliefs, natural instincts, passed down truths and self-taught lies. And in a major way, it’s the impetus for Empyrean Sanctum’s sophomore album, Detachment From Reality, which you can listen to in its entirely down below.
The brainchild of guitarist and composer Justin Kellerman, Empyrean Sanctum is a progressive metal outfit that’s filled out by some big names in the metal world. Musicians like Triptykon drummer Hannes Grossmann, Revocation bassist Alex Weber, and Katagory V vocalist Albert Rybka combine to create a massive sound that embodies the album’s journey through personal struggle.
Over the course of nine new, epic tunes, Detachment From Reality seeks to plumb the depths of the human psyche. Kellerman explained his thought process for this album as such:
“This concept album is a deep dive into the troubled mind. The search to find one’s inner self and purpose. Climbing out of the darkest depths of despair towards the light. This comes deep from within the soul, exposing vulnerability with pure authenticity.”
Spanning just a little over an hour, this album soars at times, reaching epic heights through impressive musical precision. If you dig the sort of progressive metal you get from the likes of Devin Townsend and in some ways Dream Theater, you’ll dig a lot of what Empyrean Sanctum has on offer with Detachment From Reality.
