Feuerschwanz Release a Cover of the Still Totally Relevant Smash Hit “Gangnam Style”
Oof. Wow. Listen, I know it likely took a lot of time to arrange, record, and shoot a music video for their cover of PSY’s viral megahit “Gangnam Style” — but we’re 12 years removed from that song’s cultural relevance and Feuerschwanz just dropped their cover of that track. It couldn’t have taken that long…
Still, here we are. With their 12th studio effort Knightclub (get it?) coming out on July 25 via Napalm Records, the German modern folk metal outfit saw it fit to get their fans hyped with a very yikes-inducing version of the PSY hit. The music video looks like a buncha Rennaissance Faire attendees trying to properly pronounce the Korean words while taking the piss out of the song.
Despite all that, the band say they’re excited to see how this one plays out since “nobody asked for it.”
“Off to the Knightclub – Gangnam Style! Yes, we actually took dance lessons for the only real cover song on the new album. The K-pop hit from 2012 – a dance between the worlds, now with violin, bagpipes and a good dose of metal. A game of contrasts, a cover version like a ritual. Nobody asked for it – but we did it anyway.”
You can check out the track yourself below. Admittedly it’s got its funny moments and whatnot, but like… we’re so beyond “Gangnam Style.” What’s next? A cover of “Numa Numa”?
