Coheed and Cambria to Receive Key to Nyack, New York; April 13 Declared “Coheed and Cambria Day”
I know it’s ceremonial, but I honestly wish those giant ass keys to the city actually worked. Can you imagine? This goddamn behemoth of an entry tool could literally be your key to endless possibilities. But I digress. The news of it all is that today (Sunday, April 13), Coheed and Cambria are heading back to their relative hometown of Nyack, New York, to be celebrated in all their glory. Not only are they getting the key to the town, but April 13 will now officially be “Coheed and Cambria Day.”
The ceremony is set to take place later today, with the band also performing an acoustic set at the SpringFest Street Fair in celebration. Nyack Mayor Joe Rand and Chamber of Commerce Trustee Tristan Dunnigan are set to give the band their accolades at Hezekiah Easter Veterans Memorial Park just before the evening hits.
Claudio Sanchez, the big-haired, big-voiced frontman of the group, is a Nyack High School alum. To boot, the band also started playing weekly locally at a youth event called the Backdoor, sponsored by the Nyack Center. Sanchez also has a house in Nyack, and his family still lives in the nearby town of Valley Cottage. Travis Stever, the lead guitarist of the band, is from Rockland County and still lives in Nyack with his family. Their drummer, Josh Eppard, is from Kingston, New York, and has been with the band since those Backdoor days, and their bassist, Zach Cooper, is from Pine Bush, New York.
Congrats to them! Having your own day is a big deal, even if it’s not nationally recognized. We see you, though, Coheed and Cambria. We see you.
