Having been around since the dawn of thrash metal, Germany’s Sodom has been around long enough to release 17 studio efforts and see exactly how the scene’s changed over the years. And while many bands these days are comfortable with some level of trickery in the studio, Sodom and their frontman Tom Angelripper say their forthcoming studio effort, The Arsonist, will sound organic and natural when fans get a hold of it on June 27.

“No plastic! The difference in sound compared to today’s standard drum productions is amazing and has had a positive effect on all the instruments. Naturally, time and effort as well as costs were also higher, but we’re happy to fork out for a superior result.”

In addition to the way it’s been recorded, the new album is also being touted as a truly collaborative effort among the band members, as Angelripper said Frank Blackfire (guitar), York Segatz (guitar) and Toni Merkel (drums) all contributed to the process.

“Frank contributed those typical Sodom riffs and hooks again, whereas York favors more epic songwriting. As a perfect complement to both of them, Toni, who is also an excellent guitarist, contributed a number of songs and helped to make the album even more versatile.”

As for the album’s first single, “Trigger Discipline”, it’s been described by the band as the new album’s “toughest song” that’s about a “sniper who has completely lost control of his actions and shoots people indiscriminately.” Metal.
