Original Grave Lineup Play First Reunion Show in Stockholm: Watch

0

Last summer, good news came out of the Grave camp. The Swedish death metal legends, who for the latter half of the band’s career were led by founding member Ola Lindgren, decided to return in their most original form. There’s something sweet about the original members coming back together, though, and they did just that last night (Saturday, April 5) at Kulturhuset in Stockholm, Sweden.

With Lindgren still at the reigns, the rest of the original 1991 lineup is Jörgen Sandström (vocals, guitar), Jens “Jensa” Paulsson on drums, and Jonas Torndal on bass. When the reunion announcement was first made, it was also shared that the boyz would only be playing their big three: 1991’s Into The Grave, 1992’s You’ll Never See…, and 1994’s Soulless. They kept to their word, and from the footage available to all of us who were cursed to miss it live, it seems like they killed the fuck out of it. Watch it, courtesy of a lucky fan, below.

Here’s the breakdown, according to Setlist.fm:

  1. Into The Grave
  2. Eroded
  3. Turning Black
  4. Day Of Mourning
  5. Morbid Way To Die
  6. Deformed
  7. In Love
  8. Soulless
  9. Brutally Deceased
  10. Black Dawn (Corpse cover)
  11. Christi(Ns)Anity
  12. Bullets Are Mine
  13. For Your God
  14. Extremely Rotten Flesh

Encore:

  1. You’ll Never See
  2. Hating Life
  3. And Here I Die

The Grave OG’s will also be playing Germany’s Party.San Metal Open Air, Czech Republic’s Brutal Assault, Switzerland’s Metal Storm Over Luzern, and The Netherlands’ Graveland Festival.

Shortly after sharing the good news, Lindgren offered this as a little explanation:

“Many thanks to all of you who commented on last week’s announcement and who are as excited about this as we are. Let’s bring some clarity to what this ‘reunion’ is about.

“So early this year, I was approached by the other 3 original members for a meeting. It resulted in the plan to do a couple of rehearsals for fun to see if we were first of all capable and also of course if we enjoyed jamming again.

“I would say that playing together after all these decades went far beyond anyone’s expectations so we decided to try get some shows booked and here we are.

“This is initially a plan for festival shows during 2025. At the moment there are no plans to do any touring or recording new material with this lineup but who knows where this might lead us…

“The GRAVE that imploded last year is not dead and buried, it is simply put on ice.

“Tomas [Lagrén, drums] is definitely not fired from the band and it will be his decision if he wants to be a part of any future GRAVE endeavors when that time comes.”
