Hacktivist Drop New Single “Bones” as They Announce Additions to Their Lineup
Days after being reduced to just its two vocalists after most of the band quit, British djent/grime outfit Hacktivist not only announced a new lineup, but they’ve also released a new track calling out music industry shitbirds.
With this new announcement, Hacktivist goes from a five-piece to a foursome, as they add drummer Stee Cole and ex-October Ends guitarist Alex Hek to vocalists Jermaine Hurley and JJ Olifent. The additions come just a few days after it was announced that drummer Richard Hawking, guitarist James Hewitt, and bassist Josh Gurner had quit the band.
And in a roundabout way, the band commented on the situation through the release of the single “Bones”. With an accompanying music video that plays out like a game show, the band try to release some commentary about the treacherous nature of the music industry.
And while it’s considered by the band as an example of being “heavier than ever before,” it’s definitely still has that djenty/nu metal/metalcoreish sound. Speaking of the single and lineup change, the band had this to say:
“‘Bones’ is more than just a track—it’s a statement. A blistering call-out to the industry snakes who exploit the hard work of bands for their own gain. Hacktivist is taking the DIY route, reclaiming our music, our message, and our future. This is the new Hacktivist, and we’re here to stay.
“The song also reflects the challenges the band has faced in recent months. But instead of engaging in online drama, we deliver truth through raw, unfiltered creativity. This is our response. This is ‘Bones.’”
