Katatonia Parts Ways with Founding Member Anders Nyström
After more than three decades, Jonas Renske of Swedish gothic metal band Katatonia announced that he and other founding member Anders Nyström were parting ways. In a post over on the official Katatonia Instagram account, he stated that the decision was “not taken lightly” and that creative and personal scheduling differences were the main reason why they’d reached this conclusion.
“Anders Nyström and I are going our separate ways. A decision not taken lightly, but for everyone to thrive and move forward with their own creative preferences as well as personal schedules this has become the realistic option. Anders and I started the band in 1991 and his impact on the band’s trademark sound is undeniable. As bleak as this sounds, and is, it’s further evidence of life getting in the way of our preferred plans. I wish Anders all the best for the future.”
Nyström had been with the band since 1991 and wore many hats within the band. Over the years, he’d been credited with playing bass, keyboards, guitars, programming, and vocals.
With this lineup change, Renske is the sole remaining founding member of the band. We don’t know who will take his place just yet, but I’m sure we’ll know more before their tour dates start later this year.
