Poppy Crushed It Last Night on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’

0

Comedian and late night host Jimmy Kimmel continues to prove he’s a metal ally. Or at least someone on his show is, because booking Poppy as the musical guest for last night’s episode was an excellent decision. Last year’s release of Negative Spaces was phenomenal and after her performance with Knocked Loose last year on Kimmel’s outdoor stage, it really was only a matter of time before she returned to the show.

During last night’s show, Poppy and her backing band performed “The Cost of Giving Up,” which was one of the singles off of Negative Spaces. And as far as a late night television performance goes, it’s a great song to perform for an audience that may not know you even exist. I can just imagine some mom in middle America watching the late night shows to wind down after a long ass day, only for Poppy to rope-a-dope her with this performance. One moment it’s pretty and well, poppy and then Poppy drops down and screams her face off.

It’s great to see metal acts getting center stage on such a mainstream show, but this isn’t the first time Kimmel’s given love to some of the bigger rock and metal acts over the years. You can’t forget the ill-fated Van Halen reunion show or the time Faith No More killed it on Kimmel’s stage or even Metallica’s week-long residency on the show.

I just hope some young boy or girl saw this Poppy performance and thought — I want to make heavy music when I grow up. That’s how I know metal will continue on and it’s all thanks to whoever books shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live.
