It’s starting to feel like these weekly release updates are getting hotter. Doesn’t feel quite as quiet, but here’s hoping we’ll get hotter releases as the temperatures rise, too. Thankfully, we have a buncha interesting releases to check out this week.
Architects
The Sky, The Earth & All Between (Epitaph)
This British metalcore outfit is back with a new slate of tracks that’s sure to get the blood pumping. With this new release, they’ve managed to leverage a sound that’s high intensity, melodic, and catchy at the same time.
Avantasia
Here Be Dragons (Napalm Records)
Even though that album title makes me want to break out into a sea shanty and bemoan the effects of scurvy, this is the 10th studio album by power metal outfit and Edguy’s Tobias Sammet’s side project Avantasia. It’s big, it’s evocative, and it’s as boisterous as you would expect from the band.
Vacuous
In His Blood (Relapse Records)
These guys hail from the U.K. and as you can tell from the track below, they’re not fucking around. Though no strangers to the scene, In His Blood is the band’s debut on Relapse Records and as such, they’re pushing the envelope a little harder.
Venamoris
To Cross Or To Burn (Ipecac Recordings)
Iconic drummer Dave Lombardo and his wife Paula are back with another slate of dark and sultry tunes. We enjoyed their previous work Drown In Emotion and this new effort seeks to continue what they started roughly four years ago at this point.
Year Of The Cobra
Year Of The Cobra (Prophecy Productions)
This sludgy/doomy duo from Seattle return with their third full-length album. And they do it all without any guitar, as Amy Tung Barrysmith’s bass and vocals drive the music while Jon Barrysmith pounds away behind the kit. If you’re a fan of bands with a fuzzy, thumping, and catchy sound, you should check this out.
