See You Next Tuesday Drops Off Oceano Farewell Tour Over Flier Controversy
Not sure if you’ve been keeping up, but Oceano is out here giving a masterclass on how to attract controversy. The band’s recently announced breakup was already due to the controversy surrounding the tour they were booked on with Attila and Dealer, both of whom have members accused of sexual misconduct. Then they announced their farewell tour and an artist accused them of ripping off his artwork for the tour without giving him credit. Oceano’s Adam Warren has apparently paid the artist now, but that didn’t stop the controversy from continuing to spiral out of control.
The latest development is that one of the support acts for the tour, Michigan-based deathcore outfit See You Next Tuesday, has dropped off the bill over the controversy regarding the artwork.
See You Next Tuesday posted on Instagram last night explaining their reasons for dropping off the tour, stating:
“Half of See You Next Tuesday’s members are visual artists and rely on art as their sole income. Given the current tour poster situation, it has presented a huge dilemma for us, challenging our morality and standards as artists. We stand against things like AI stealing art from hardworking artists for the profit of the less creative, with zero recognition to the original artists. This may seem like a minor problem to people outside of the art world, but it is seriously damaging to the livelihoods of artists who use their art to support themselves and their families. This situation between Oceano and the original artist of the tour poster, Chris Gallien, although a different type of situation, awkwardly aligns itself with the same reasons we despise AI.
“In the end, we as a band have decided we are not comfortable with the current situation and will no longer be part of this tour.
“We would like to apologize to everyone who worked on making the tour happen for us and anyone who was looking forward to seeing us live. Lastly, we hope a positive resolution can be reached between all other parties involved.”
At the time of this writing, the other three support acts — I Declare War, Filth, and Backbiter — have yet to comment on the situation and Oceano, with their social media now scrubbed and locked down, have made no statement either. Who knows what this tour is going to look like in the end if/when it gets off the ground.
