This brutal black metal outfit hailing out of the U.K. traffics in a sound that’s big and atmospheric. But don’t let that fool you — this act has an aggressively apocalyptic side to it. Described by the band as their “most electrifying, emotionally complex and personal recording to date,” it’s likely to stand out among some of the more recent black metal releases.
Drugs of Faith
Asymmetrical (Selfmadegod Records)
There’s so much pissed off energy packed into this 10-track, 21-minute album that it’s likely to go up in flames like a damaged battery if mishandled in the slightest. Written and demoed in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, it’s a furious mixture of punk, grindcore, and rock that doesn’t overstay its welcome but immediately manages to make its presence known.
Four Seconds Ago
1000 Needles (3DOT Recordings)
Okay, so this one might be a bit of a stretch to include on a MetalSucks new release list, but hear me out. This is the more electronic-styled side project from Periphery’s Misha Mansoor and Jake Bowen. Is it metal? Not really. Is it metal-adjacent? Yep.
Killswitch Engage
This Consequence (Metal Blade)
Though the latest from Killswitch Engage probably won’t usurp the likes of The End of Heartache, but it’s a hell of an entry that adds to the band’s melodic metalcore legacy. You can check out the 4/5 review we ran earlier this week to learn more about this one.

A full-length black metal release forged by the likes of Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera, Down), Derek Engemann (Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals), John Jarvis (Nest, Agoraphobic Nosebleed), Mark Kloeppel (Misery Index), and Adam Jarvis (Pig Destroyer, Misery Index, Lock Up)? Yes, it’s as epic as that sounds.
