Wetnurse
TBA
Label – TBD
Release date – Tentatively sometime before Christmas 2011
New York City’s own Wetnurse are one of those bands whose music I have almost no idea how to describe; I mean, it’s like trying to tell a blind person what a color looks like. They mix elements of All Things Rock into one dirty, aggro, and wholly unique package, and if you’re not hip to them yet, well, you best get on that shit.
(Bonus: they are SO MUCH FUN LIVE, I don’t even know where to start. Gene Fowler has to be one of the most entertaining front men out there right now; he looks like he’s having an epileptic fit every time he takes the stage. And I mean that as a compliment.)
2011 marks Wetnurse’s tenth year of existence, and they’re hoping to celebrate the anniversary with a new release sometime towards the end of this year. Drummer Curran Reynolds (who, along with bassist Ryan Jones, is also now in the always-great Today is the Day) tells me:
“We are finishing up the writing of the new album at our rehearsal space in Brooklyn. We’ve been working on this album for the past two years, since the release of our last album, Invisible City. Ryan and I are also recording the new Today Is The Day album and touring with TITD this year. Garett [Bussanick, guitars] is recording a new album with his other band, Flourishing [Who are also awesome. – Ed.]. If anything, these other projects make us even more excited and determined to get the Wetnurse album done and to make use of the time we have together as a band. The goal is to have this beast out before Christmas.”
I CAN’T BELIEVE WE MIGHT HAVE TO WAIT ALMOST ANOTHER WHOLE YEAR FOR THIS ALBUM. I WANT TO HEAR IT NOW, GOD DAMN IT.
Sigh.
ANYWAY, while you wait impatiently for the new release, a track from the band’s 2008 release, the aforementioned Invisible City, will appear on our upcoming NYC Sucks comp. Get stoked.
