Atheist Plans to Put Out Their First New Album Since 2010 This Year
Floridian technical death metal act Atheist are pretty iconic for the music they’ve put out, but they’re hardly the most prolific band in the world. They’ve put out four albums since 1989 and, even accounting for the 12 year hiatus that came between their third and fourth albums, that’s still not a ton. They’ve always been more about quality than quantity, and have been staying active touring despite their last album coming out in 2010. Well, it seems like the wait for new material is finally over, as the band plans to finally put out new music in 2025.
The news came in a recent interview with Altars of Metal (that was reported on by our friends at Metal Injection) with Atheist frontman Kelly Shaefer, where he said:
“We have a really busy year coming up. In a couple of weeks, we head to South America with our friends in Cryptopsy. And so we’re gonna do that. And then we have a North American run in April that’s yet to be announced. We plan on hitting Japan and New Zealand this year, in June, and then Europe in September and then another U.S. tour in November. So somewhere in between, we’re gonna be writing [new material].”
He then continued, saying:
“We’ve got about six new songs written. And it’s the first new Atheist music in a lot of years — 15, to be exact, which blows my fucking mind, that Jupiter is 15 years old already. Jupiter is a teenager. It feels like it was just a minute ago.”
So look forward to that new album later this year, because, considering their output, it’s likely to be their last until, like, 2056.
