Snot is Working On Their First New Music In a Very Long Time
Nu-metal icons Snot refused to announce the identity of their singer until the moment he stepped on stage at their first reunion show, claiming they didn’t want him being harassed on social media since he wasn’t anyone that any of their fans would recognize. That turned out to be a little bit of a fib as their new lead singer turned out to be Andy Knapp of Stronger Than Machines. While Stronger Than Machines may not be the biggest name band out there, it’s not like nobody has heard of them exactly. But whatever the band’s reasoning for withholding their new singer’s identity for so long, it seems to have stirred some extra interest in this Snot reunion, which was already pretty intriguing to begin with. Now they’ve dealt us another surprise with this reunion, as members of Snot have confirmed that they’re working on new music.
The announcement came from Snot’s guitarist Mikey Doling and bassist John “Tumor” Fahnestock in an interview with The Garza Podcast (that was transcribed by Blabbermouth) which is hosted by Suicide Silence guitarist Chris Garza. Both band members were really eager to share the news that they were working on new music. First, Doling said:
“Oh, I got riffs, man.”
Then Fehnestock followed that up by saying:
“We tracked stuff six, seven years ago, Mikey and I, that sounds jaw-dropping like SNOT, ’cause that’s just how we work together.”
Then Doling responded:
“There are no vocals on it yet, but we’re writing.”
To which Fehnestock replied:
“But the music, you’ll be like, ‘Holy shit. That’s like SNOT.’ It’s just what we do. It’s not a struggle. We just write that way. And when we pair it together. And it was kind of like an East Coast-meets-West Coast thing back then, and it still jells; it still works.”
You may have noticed that nothing in that specifies that Knapp will be providing music to this new music but, with Knapp fronting the band live, it only stands to reason that he’ll be providing the vocals for anything new the band produces.
The news that Snot is making music comes as something of a surprise, as the band was very reluctant to continue on immediately following the death of their original vocalist Lynn Strait in 1998. While the band put out one album of music following Strait’s death, the album, entitled Strait Up, was made up of songs that Strait had been working on with the band at the time of his death. That means that any new music would mark the first new material from Snot to be written since Strait’s death in 1998 and the first music released from Snot since 2000.
