Featuring members of King Diamond, Shaolin Death Squad, and Chastain Harris, this band is releasing a sophomore album that features described as having “the dark atmosphere and complexity of Opeth, Black Sabbath and Voivod into shorter, more accessible songs with the hooks and vocal harmonies of Queen, Alice In Chains and Ghost.” Take that however you will.
Ex Deo
Year of the Four Emperors (Reigning Phoenix Music)
As a side project of Kataklysm frontman Maurizio Iacono, Ex Deo’s follow up to 2021’s The Thirteen Years of Nero is a four-track EP focusing on 69 AD (nice) in Rome. Apparently political turmoil was all the rage back then too, leading to a time where they had four emperors before that year was through. As for the music, it’s as expected — big, epic, and heavy as hell.
Stick To Your Guns
Keep Planting Flowers (SharpTone Records)
After more than two decades, Stick To Your Guns continue to do just that, offering up a slate of hardcore tunes for their eighth full-length release and their debut on Sharptone Records.
The Halo Effect
March Of The Unheard (Nuclear Blast)
Swedish melodic death metal supergroup The Halo Effect return with March Of The Undead, their sophomore full-length album. Featuring former members of In Flames and Dark Tranquillity’s vocalist Mikael Stanne, you should have a pretty good idea of what these guys sound like at this point. It’s that classic Gothenburg sound, only with a fresher and more modern approach.
Tremonti
The End Will Show Us How (Napalm Records)
Creed and Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti put out a record today. It’s radio friendly rock, but the dude’s a good guy so I’m including it in this list. Maybe take this one out in front of your normie friends to make them worry about you less?
