GoFundMe Launched for Graphic Designer Who Suffered Brain Injury at a Hardcore Show

Okay, so I know just yesterday I went on a rant about how stupid stage diving and crowd surfing are, but that doesn’t mean I’m unsympathetic to Jim Anderson, better known as graphic designer GRIMGRIMGRIM, who suffered a near-fatal brain bleed after stage diving at a show for hardcore band War Hungry on December 15 at Preserving Underground in Philadelphia, PA. Anderson underwent brain surgery and had part of his skull removed after the incident.

Considering, as I’ve said before, that medical care is criminally expensive in the United States, a GoFundMe was launched for Anderson’s expenses by his friend Colleen Crank. Crank wrote on the GoFundMe:

“My name is Colleen Crank and I’m a friend of Jim’s (aka GRIMGRIMGRIM). On 12/15/24 Jim suffered a head injury at a show and ended up needing emergency brain surgery at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, PA and now has 50 staples in his head. Jim is resting at the hospital now, and has been alert and FaceTiming with his friends, even giving a ‘GO BIRDS!’ to end the call. Jim will need our help, now, however as he will be out of work both from his 9 – 5 and from vending.

“If you’ve been around the Philly art/metal/hardcore/wrestling scene over the last 10+ years you’ve probably seen Jim around, if not you’ve definitely have seen his art on show fliers or at Philly sporting events on shirts. Jim has done a lot for a lot of people, and I hope we can do something big for him.

“I’m starting the goal at 10k and will take it from there. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.”

The GoFundMe has almost doubled its goal, which once again demonstrates that the hardcore community shows up for their own. Still, if you want to make sure that Anderson doesn’t end up in some sort of Breaking Bad-type situation because of how expensive healthcare is, please donate if you can.
