Surviving Members of Soundgarden to Reunite for One-Off Charity Concert as “Nudedragons”
Following the tragic suicide of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell in 2017, the three remaining members of Soundgarden—guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Ben Shepherd, and drummer Matt Cameron—originally planned to retire the band and make no attempts to continue on without Cornell. They’ve gone back on that a few times, but only for one-off shows like a Chris Cornell tribute concert in 2019 and a performance with Brandi Carlile in 2021. Now they’re reuniting once again for a benefit show in a few weeks.
The three surviving members will be playing December 14 at The Shadowbox in Seattle for a show to benefit Seattle Children’s Hospital. So as to differentiate themselves from the version of Soundgarden that played with Cornell, the band will be playing under the moniker “Nudedragons,” an anagram of Soundgarden that they’ve used before. Filling in on vocals for this performance will be Seattle-based singer, songwriter, vocal coach, and community organizer Shaina Shepherd.
In a post on the official Nudedragons Instagram, the band wrote:
“Nudedragons will be returning to the stage, and the Showbox, for the first time in 14+ years as part of the SMooCH benefit for Seattle Children’s Hospital on Saturday, December 14. Shaina Shepherd will be featured on vocals for their brief encore performance.”
Shaina Shepherd responded to the post from Nudedragons calling the performance:
“The honor of my life.”
Similarly, on her own Instagram, the singer wrote:
“And It’s Time.
The only thing sweeter than singing with [Nudedragons] is giving back with the team at [SMooCh].”
Tickets for the event have already sold out so good luck getting in if you want to catch the historic performance.
