Down Are Finally Releasing a New Album Next Year

0

New Orleans-based sludge metal supergroup Down haven’t technically put out a new full-length album since all the way back in 2007, although they kind of put out an album in two parts as separate EPs in 2012 and 2014. So, depending on how you look at it, they either haven’t put out an album in 17 years or in 10 years. Either way, that’s a long time. Then again, with band members who are also in Pantera, Eyehategod, Corrosion of Conformity, Crowbar, and more, it’s a miracle that the members of Down can get together for anything more involved than a Zoom call. But apparently they’ve carved out some time together, because there’s a new Down album expected next year.

In a recent interview with That Metal Interview podcast (that was transcribed by Blabbermouth), Crowbar frontman Kirk Windstein, who also plays guitar in Down, revealed that he’s been focused on Down lately with the band putting out a new album next year:

“I’ve been in DOWN world [for the last few months] kinda, writing with DOWN and finishing up the writing for the album that’s [gonna come] out next year at some point… We’ve got 10 new songs, man. It’s awesome.”

That’s pretty exciting to hear that there’s finally going to be new Down music, and it seems like a minor miracle with Phil Anselmo so busy touring with the band that’s currently referring to themselves as Pantera. Meanwhile, Down doesn’t have any tours lined up exactly, but they’re playing two festival shows next year, one at Milwaukee Metal Fest May 15-18 and the other at Sick New World in Las Vegas on April 25. Hopefully the release of a new album will mean more tour dates for Down next year.
