Former Trixter Drummer Mark “Gus” Scott Seems Vaguely Apologetic Towards His Ex-Bandmates
We don’t spend a lot of time at MetalSucks talking about ‘80s and mostly-‘90s hair metal act Trixter. In fact, the last time we talked about Trixter on this site was under the old site’s leadership and even then almost every article started with some variation of “HOLY SHIT TRIXTER IS STILL A BAND?!” Well, they still are a band, even though they’re down a few members. There’s been a lot of bad blood between the band’s longtime drummer, Mark “Gus” Scott, and the rest of the band, with a lot of name-calling back and forth between the band members without any confirmation of what actually happened. According to rumors, guitarist Steve Brown had let the band’s trademark expire by accident and Scott, realizing this, went behind the other band members’ backs to try and snatch it up. Nobody has confirmed these rumors but, when asked point blank about it, nobody’s really denied them either. Well, now it seems that Scott wants to make amends. Well, sort of.
In a recent interview with The Bay Ragni Show (that was transcribed by Blabbermouth), Scott talked about his former bandmates, who are now performing together with a new drummer and without vocalist Peter Loran, with Steve Brown picking up vocal duties. Scott said he held no ill-will towards his former bandmates, but seemed to have some regrets about whatever happened with him and the band. When asked if he had done something wrong, Scott said:
“It wasn’t right, I’ll be the first to admit it. Yep. It could have gone a lot more wrong, let’s put it that way.”
But while Scott seemed regretful, he also seemed to have limits to his remorse, adding:
“I understand why they were pissed. I’m not angry at them for that. And I was pissed at the time too. My actions were certainly prompted by other things. And I never really wanted to make it public, but I’m not gonna sit here and just be a fucking whipping boy. Those cocksuckers fucking act like a couple of assholes. And now things are okay and it’s all right, but it’s not like I just woke up one day and decided to be a fucking dick.”
Calling someone a cocksucker is mildly homophobic but, moreover, it’s an odd thing to call someone in the midst of an apology. Well, an apology of sorts, anyway. When the host suggested that Scott simply pick up a phone and apologize, Scott seemed open to it but also seemed to indicate that he’s kind of too busy right now:
“I am not averse to that idea or taking action to create that scenario. I don’t know how receptive they’re gonna be. But I would be willing to do that. And honestly, I think it’s overdue. If anything, I probably should have done something prior to this point, but then I start channeling my energies towards other areas. We’ll see.”
Here’s a tip Scott: if you do pick up the phone and call your former bandmates, avoid the word “cocksucker.”
