Lucifer Taps Pentagram’s Bobby Liebling for Leonard Cohen Cover
Just yesterday we premiered a new tune from the doom band Pentagram. It’s super cool and you should check that out after this, because that band’s frontman Bobby Liebling is featured in a Leonard Cohen cover by doom metal outfit Lucifer.
Yes, you read that right — a Leonard Cohen cover. The track, “Who By Fire,” was originally released on the 1974 album New Skin for the Old Democracy. This time around, Lucifer’s putting their spin on it and releasing it just a week before they head out on the second leg of their 2024 ‘Satanic Panic’ European Tour. Liebling and Lucifer front woman Johanna Platow Andersson duet on the track, creating a unique sound that only two talents separated by 25 years can create.
Andersson said the track in question was personal for her, since she grew up listening to Cohen’s music because her mother was a fan.
“Growing up with Leonard Cohen’s music, as my mother was a passionate fan, I have always been profoundly touched by his lyrics and of course especially gravitated towards this extremely haunting death theme.
“Bobby Liebling and I have been talking about collaborating for quite a few years now. When I knew I wanted Lucifer to cover ‘Who By Fire’, Bobby was the perfect one to interpret this very eerie song and I am so glad he said yes. Being a huge Pentagram fan, this is quite something for me!
“We are extremely pleased how ‘Who By Fire’ turned into a Lucifer song and Halloween was the perfect occasion to release this morbid work.”
