Ithaca to Call It Quits This February, Announce Final Show

It’s rare that we ever get advance warning when the bands we like decide to hang it up. Usually, a band that’s seemingly riding high ultimately meets its end because someone died or one band member fucks the other band member’s significant other or something along those lines. But that’s not the case for British metalcore act Ithaca — there’s nothing but love within the band, they’re just unable to keep things going at an acceptable level.

The news of the band’s impending doom came about through a social media post, in which they announce the band now has a finite shelf life and admitted that they’d rather end things now than let things decline to an unacceptable level. Their statement is as follows:

⛓️ RIP ITHACA 2013-2025 ⛓️

“Ithaca is coming to an end. This was a huge decision to make, but it’s the right time.

“There’s been no falling out or creative differences, in fact we’re closer than ever, we’re just no longer able to balance our life responsibilities with giving you the standard of art that you deserve, and feel like we’ve fulfilled more than our wildest dreams could have imagined in terms of where this band would take us. Now, we’re ready to put it to rest.

“We don’t quite have the words yet to describe what this band and all of your support has meant to us; that’ll come over time.

“But it’s not the end just yet. We came to this decision together so, true to us, we want to mark the end of this journey with intention and in style. We’ll be releasing a final track, and we’d like to cordially invite you to our funeral: our final headline show, The Cremation Party, where we can grieve together. It’ll be a proper wake- there’ll be DJs, us cracking out old songs we’ve not played in years and, inevitably, lots of crying. Tickets go on sale Friday 1st November 10am, we’ll see you there.

“Love always ????”

As they mentioned, there will be one final farewell show for Ithaca that’ll take place on February 8 at London O2 Academy Islington. I’d venture to say Ithaca fans are going to want to make sure they’re at the gig to say goodbye to a band that always stuck to their morals and played what they wanted to.

There’s something commendable about the fact that the band realized they weren’t able to keep things going and decided to end things before things got too bad. It’s just a shame that artists have to make that kind of decision in the first place. Either way, tickets for the band’s final show go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m.
