John 5 Says He and Rob Zombie Haven’t Spoken Since He Left for Mötley Crüe, But They’re Good
It’s coming up on two years since guitarist John 5 mysteriously didn’t show up for a Rob Zombie concert at Aftershock Festival, leading to the revelation that he was replacing Mick Mars as the guitarist for Mötley Crüe. Apparently, that’s also how long it’s been since the guitarist and Zombie have spoken. Just don’t worry about their relationship though, as John 5 says there’s no bad blood between them.
In a recent interview with The Jasta Show, a video podcast hosted by Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta, (transcribed by Blabbermouth), John 5 was asked if he had contact with the solo artist and former White Zombie frontman:
“We’re not on bad terms. And Rob wished me well. And he was, like, ‘Go get ’em,’ and all that stuff. So we’re not on bad terms, but we just have not spoke; we haven’t spoken to each other. But he’s doing great. He’s got a great new band, and he’s kicking ass out there. But we just haven’t talked. I don’t think there’s any bad blood or anything. I mean, 17 years and things like that, but it was just time to…”
He then continued:
“I wanna live my life, and to get an opportunity at this stage is a pretty rare opportunity. So I just want to see so many more things.
“I’m never gonna retire — I guarantee you that; I’ll never retire, but I just wanna do so much more.”
It’s good to see that the guitarist and his former band leader are not on bad terms. However, I still remain skeptical that leaving Rob Zombie, an artist that remains fairly popular and relevant, to join a very washed-up glam metal band who feel like a sad parody of their former glory in 2024, was a step towards bigger and better things in John 5’s career. But hey, you do you, John.
