Sodom Drop Video for Remastered “Wachturm”, Tapping The Vein Reissue Coming Next Month

German thrash metal motherfuckers Sodom are taking a look back to the past with the upcoming release of a remastered and reissued version of their 1992 album Tapping The Vein. With its release set for November 15, the band dropped a video full of archival footage set to the newly remastered version of “Wachturm” and damn it if it doesn’t sound good.

As the band looks back to the early 90s and remembers those days, Tom Angelripper recalled how “Wachturm” came together in the first place.

“Andy (Brings – guitarist) is a big Ramones fan, which Chris (Witchhunter – drums) and I also liked. Chris was the metal advocate in the band, whereas I was more into punk and Motörhead. It was the combination that made it work.”

Certainly, Sodom’s not the first thrash metal band to have an affinity for the Ramones, but guitarist Andy Brings said that combination of metal and punk that we’ve come to know as thrash metal gave birth to the band’s sound.

“Chris wasn’t averse to punk either, he was a big fan of Die Toten Hosen for example. At that time we actually considered covering their song ‘Liebesspieler’ for Tapping The Vein but in the end we composed our own punk song, ‘Wachturm’. Even though the German lyrics of the song sound humorous, they have a serious background. They are based on some very bad experiences Chris had with the Jehovah’s Witnesses. His girlfriend at the time joined the sect and left him because of it.”

This new version of Tapping The Vein features both a remastered version of the original album and a completely remixed version done by Brings. The latter offering will come with some alternate takes of three album tracks. In the super deluxe edition, the three LP version will include recordings from three concerts: Tokyo 1992, Düsseldorf 1992 and Cologne 1992, which was the last show with Chris Witchhunter.

The remastered and reissued Tapping The Vein will be available on November 15, but you can preorder your copy today.
