Sh*t That Comes Out Today: October 4, 2024

0

I normally try to write something related to what’s going on around us or something that’s coming out this week or what have you, but not today. That’s because HOLY FUCKING SHIT THE METS BEAT THE BREWERS IN AN INSANELY RIDICULOUS FASHION! THIS FUCKING TEAM, MAN! I mean… I know I should keep my expectations tempered because, well, it’s the fucking Mets and they have a history of greatly disappointing their fans, but… FUCK YOU THE METS OWN MILWAUKEE!

Blood Incantation

Absolute Elsewhere (Century Media)

Sci-fi death metal, man. What a glorious combination and Blood Incantation got that shit in spades. As Paul Reidl himself described the album, it’s “like the soundtrack to a Herzog-style Sci-Fi epic about the history of/battle for human consciousness itself, via a 70s Prog album played by a 90s Death Metal band from the future.” Sign me up, man.

Livløs

The Crescent King (Livløs)

Wait, more sci-fi death metal? Say it ain’t so! For their third full-length album, this Danish band went for a concept album that goes hard in the whole fantasy/castle intrigue thing, only it’s in space. Oh and it helps that the music fucking rips.

Mötley Crüe

Cancelled (Big Machine Label Group)

This band is too big to not add to this list, but… fart noise.

The Native Howl

Sons Of Destruction (Sumerian Records)

The banjo and acoustic guitar might turn off the more crusty gatekeepers among our readers, but The Native Howl are awesome. They take what Dethklok so famously called “Grampa’s guitars” and make them kick serious ass. Mixing thrash metal and bluegrass, you get a sound that’s all their own and if you haven’t heard their weird O’ Brother, Where Art Thou? mashup with Metallica’s “Harvester of Sorrow,” you’re missing out.

Undeath

More Insane (Prosthetic Records)

Take death metal and make it have an undeniable heft and groove. That’s the formula behind Undeath’s sound and More Insane continues their absolute dominance in that space. This one should come with a warning that you might bang your head so hard you might slip a disk in your neck.
