Super Monster Party Gotta Go Fast in Their Tribute to Sonic the Hedgehog, “Blue Hurricane”
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — metalheads are fucking nerds. We all like something far too much and we geek out over shit all the time. Many of us were outcasts in school, so that means a lot of us love Dungeons & Dragons, books, and video games, among other things. That last one is exactly what this post is all about, too, as Miani-based band Super Monster Party released a song that’s trying to play right into my sentiments as a 90s Sega kid, “Blue Hurricane”.
As you might have guessed by my invocation of Sega, the song’s about the “Blue Blur” himself, Sonic the Hedgehog. As expected, the song’s blisteringly fast and the latest single in their forthcoming album Rage Quit, due out on November 11.
According to the band, the song was released as a sort of way to contribute to Sonic the Hedgehog’s 33th birthday. Sure, it’s geeky as shit, but you gotta admit that watching grown men play damn good speed metal dressed in Sonic-themed onesies is pretty fun. They’ve released songs about other games too, including “This Is Doom!” for Doom and “Test Your Might” for Mortal Kombat. That’s their schtick — video game-based 90s nostalgia.
