Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Farrell Working on Mental Health After Outburst

I’m not sure anyone thought it was going to go this far. I know I didn’t expect it, but it makes sense. According to a post Perry Farrell’s wife Etty Lau Farrell made on her Instagram Saturday, September 21, the Jane’s Addiction singer is taking some much-needed time off to focus on his declining mental health.

The update comes just days after Farrell attacked his bandmate, Dave Navarro, for no real reason while onstage at their show in Boston. The scrap led the band to cancel the rest of their tour for this year.

“As you know, Perry is the gentlest of souls. We are equally astonished at Perry’s physical outburst as you are – but you must know that Perry must had been pushed to his absolute limit.. to that end we apologize.

“We are taking a bit of time to ourselves, to reflect and to heal. Perry already has appointments with a otolaryngologist and a neurologist.

“If you know and love Perry well, you know there’s no need for me to address the other false narratives. Our souls know.

“With all of your love, kindness, compassion and support, you know, Perry will persevere.. He will recover. He will be happy again. He will once again be able to share his music, vision and artistry – unbridled.

“Make no mistake when he’s ready he will take another giant leap over obstacles to make us laugh, think, while changing the world together.

“We can rejoice together then. And you will know, we would not have been able to do it without you.”

The dustup happened during their September 13 set at the Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston. Farrell shoulder-checked Navarro out of nowhere which led him to put his hand up in defense before Farrell tried to throw a punch at him. Their stage staff then broke up the scuffle.

Farrell did apologize for his behavior, stating how his “breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”

The rest of the band expressed remorse for having to cancel the rest of the tour, saying how they had no choice due to Farrell’s behavioral and mental issues. They released a statement about ending early, saying “Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.”
