Sammy Hagar Bestowed With the Key to the Las Vegas Strip

It’s such a funny thing, how local government works. Let’s be real—it’s funny how all government works if we were to sit and think about it hard enough. But, enough of that. If Sammy Hagar hasn’t done enough funny shit lately, as he always does, he’s managed to do something hilarious inadvertently. Because of everything he’s done for Vegas, he’s getting gifted with the key to the Las Vegas Strip, and we love that for him.

It’s not like he doesn’t deserve it, though. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has boosted the local economy in so many ways while also doing a substantial amount of charity work in the city’s Clark County.

The celebration is set to take place at the Hagar-owned restaurant Cabo Wabo Cantina, which is located at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Friday, October 4. The festivities are meant to celebrate Hagar’s 77th birthday as well as the 15th anniversary of said restaurant being open. He’s low-key known for how poppin’ his birthday parties can be, and he’ll be sharing that awesomeness with two sold-out shows at Palms Casino Resort. Clark County Commissioner James Gibson will give him the glorious unlocking mechanism.

Of the special occasion, Hagar had this to say:

“Bringing Cabo Wabo Cantina to Las Vegas has made me feel like a local since day one. Cabo Wabo Cantina was created as a place where I could hang out and bring my friends and it has remained the ultimate spot on the Strip for rock ‘n’ roll, killer margaritas and great Mexican food. Through amazing partners, the best team in town and the exceptional Mexican food of Chef Tacho Kneeland, who has been there since day one, Cabo Wabo Cantina is still going strong. I’m grateful to the Clark County Commission, everyone at Cabo Wabo Cantina, and all of Las Vegas for this honor. My experiences here have been some of the most special moments of my life and I couldn’t be more thankful.”

Even though the commencement fun will only be for his exclusive fans, tickets are $55, which includes two cocktails made with Hagar’s signature booze. Ticket holders will also get 20% off food while they’re there.
