Poison Drummer Rikki Rockett Announces Side Project: The Rockett Mafia

0

Poison drummer Rikki Rockett isn’t sitting on his hands while Poison waits until 2026 to tour again. The founding member of Poison is setting off on his own with a side project called The Rockett Mafia, which features Brandon Gibbs of Hoekstra/Gibbs, Mick Weda of Bulletboys, and Bryan Kimes of The Hot Summers. Sure, I’ve heard of those bands before.

Rockett unveiled the new side project on social media, describing it as follows on Facebook:

“The guys and myself have gotten so much positive feedback so far on this line up! I feel very blessed. Our agent will have quite a grocery list to swim through. Thank you all for all the positive feedback!

“A little more about us…
This little band was created to have fun re-imagining, for the most part, 70’s cover songs, but not the usual batch that you’d expect. Wait until you hear some of these songs and you’ll go, “Hey, I know that song! I can’t believe they are playing that!” However, do not discount original material. Brandon and Mick both are powerhouses.

“This will be fun as we slowly begin to get this off the ground! On behalf of the R-Mob, Thank you all so very much!”

So it looks to be the highest profile cover band to come about since Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. Perhaps a more appropriate name than The Rockett Mafia would have been That ‘70s Band. It will be interesting to see what the band comes up with in terms of original material, though. Nothing much has been announced yet except the name of the band, so stay tuned for more details if you’re really into watching washed up D-list rock stars cover songs from when your parents were kids.
