Perry Farrell Issues Personal Apology Following Announcement of Jane’s Addiction Hiatus

Lots of us have gotten drunk and maybe got a bit more belligerent than we needed to be. Few of us have had to face repercussions on a national stage. There are a few drunken nights I’ve had that I’m very grateful have never been carried by national news media. Before the recent scuffle between Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro—which may or may not have involved drugs and/or alcohol—I wasn’t even aware there were this many people who weren’t me who gave a shit about Jane’s Addiction. But the situation has drawn widespread national attention as Jane’s Addiction announced a hiatus as a band and Farrell has to deal with the aftermath of his actions.

Farrell issued a personal statement on his Instagram story yesterday about the incident after the rest of his band basically dumped him:

“This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show.

“Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”

You have to feel for Farrell in this situation, even if he is the one who instigated things. If this did involve Farrell being intoxicated, he has a long history of substance abuse issues and the only thing harder than having to face the fact that he’s suffered a relapse is the fact that his relapse is being covered by TMZ. Still,  Jane’s Addiction has had more reunion tours than Dave Navarro has tattoos, so it’s probably only a matter of time before we see the band back on the road again, but it’s probably going to involve some very difficult conversations between Farrell and his bandmates.
