Mushroomhead’s “Skinny” Felton Says Slipknot’s Popularity is Good for Other Bands
Rock beef is actually just as hilarious as rap beef, to be honest. Really, having anyone feud over “who wore it first” or “who wore it better” just seems so high school, but it somehow became an on-and-off thing for Mushroomhead and Slipknot throughout the years. Now it seems like they’ve come to a place of understanding and appreciation for each other. At least, there’s all that joyful shit on Mushroomhead’s end.
Steve “Skinny” Felton, the only core member of Mushroomhead remaining, has come to terms with all the “exaggerated” shit that’s gone back and forth between his band and Slipknot. In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Felton even admits how much the band has done for other masked mustachios who want to dabble in metal and costumes.
“Slipknot, man, amazing. One of the biggest heavy metal bands in the world. Holy shit, it’s gigantically huge and what they have done is amazing. And I think it opens the doors for other bands as well as my own. People like this masked metal. They like theatrics.”
We love the theatrics, too. Going even further, Felton also touched on how much sad bullshit Slipknot’s been through, like mocking words and lost members.
“There were lots of people signing lots of bands in the day. It wasn’t like we got the exact same offer by the same guy who signed Slipknot. And I have a lot of compassion for them, because they’ve put up with a lot of bullshit just to make music and art, and they’ve lost good people. I commend them for everything they do and it just goes to show that I wasn’t that far off many years ago that this type of thing was going to be bigger than we even knew. I wasn’t wrong. It just wasn’t my band.”
It’s nice to see them trying to squash the proverbial beef. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll get some sort of Mushroomhead/Slipknot mashup. (Mushroomknot doesn’t flow off the tongue well, so maybe Sliphead?)
