Dan Spitz Not Thinking About Anthrax Reunion: “I’m F*cking Around With Crazy-Ass Expensive Watches, Enjoying Myself”
Rock music is a tumultuous industry and it’s a pretty good idea to have something to fall back on. Members of melodic death metal group Insomnium can fall back on their careers as scientists. Jonathan Davis of Korn could always fall back on his first career as a mortician. That is what he went to college for, after all. I’m sure when people get tired of Kid Rock he’ll be able to fall back on his original career, too, which I assume was charging nerds to let them beat him up in front of hot girls. Well, guitarist Dan Spitz isn’t ruling out any future reunion with Anthrax, but he seems to be content for right now being a watchmaker.
In a recent interview with YouTube series The Delz Show (that was transcribed by Blabbermouth), Spitz was asked if he could see himself reuniting with his former band Anthrax and, while he left the door open, he seemed to suggest that he’s happy with his career as a watchmaker:
“We did a reunion, which ended up being three years long. I agreed to do that. And I think it was supposed to be about a year, and it was so well received, we kind of kept going. And I enjoyed that very much. I’ve missed the guys. We grew up together, right? And a fun fact that no one has talked about is we are the only band of the ‘Big Four’ [of 1980s thrash metal] that everyone is still alive that made the greatest music. Everyone else had somebody that’s passed away. So right now I have my new [watch repair and watch dealer] facility here in Delray Beach [Florida]. Everybody knows probably I’m this crazy master watchmaker dude, so I’m fucking around with crazy-ass expensive watches, enjoying myself. So you never know what happens in the future.”
Okay, well, whatever makes him happy. Still, that last sentence makes it clear that the door isn’t quite closed, but it also seems to be one of the furthest things from his mind at the moment.
