Ex-Amon Amarth Members Form as Fimbul Winter
When Amon Amarth began their separation process from drummer Frederik Andersson back in 2015, suffice to say it was a damn bummer, kind of like when your parents separated (even though it was in no way that serious). But fear not, because Andersson is back now as the lead singer Fimbul Winter (and no, there is no affiliation between this Fimbul Winter and the old Norwegian black metal band Fimbulwinter, in case you were wondering). The band also has Amon Amarth members Anders Biazzi on guitar and Niko Kaukinen on drums. Rounding out the lineup is vocalist Clint Willams and bassist.
Even though they’re an entirely different band, a lot of what Fimbul Winter is set to release soon will be old Amon Amarth demos and material that they all worked on together while in the band, though they do have some original songs that are set to come out at some point soon.
Their namesake comes from one of their songs from nearly three decades ago, which from a name standpoint really seemed to stick out to the band. Of their formation, the band had this to say:
“The idea started with Niko wanting to play the demo ‘The Arrival Of The Fimbul Winter’, which he recorded over 30 years ago, at his 50th-birthday party. Fredrik thought it sounded like fun and offered to play the guitar. After that Anders was asked to join in and then with the addition of friends Linus Nirbrant on bass and Clint on vocals, a selected amount of friends got to experience this unique lineup and hear the tracks that once laid the foundation to what was to become. Having so much fun playing together and realizing all three former members had a ton of killer old-school material, the decision to keep on playing and to eventually record new songs was made.”
The band will officially debut on the Close-Up Båten cruise in September.
