Grievances (M-Theory Audio)
Released just in time to participate in the first night of Heavy Chicago II, Avernus return with their second full-length album and their first since 1997’s …of the Fallen. Not only that, but it’s the atmospheric doom/death metal outfit’s first release under M-Theory Audio. As such, it’s slow and moody with plenty of power simmering beneath the surface.
Dark Tranquillity
Endtime Signals (Century Media Records)
Melodic death metal band Dark Tranquillity are back with their latest album. According to our review by none other than C.C. Delorean, the album “understands and accepts that the world is fucked, but it does not lie down and go gentle into that good night,” meaning it’s still sad but it’s also pissed off at how things have been going. As genre stalwarts, this is definitely a release worth checking out.
Extinction A.D.
To The Detested (Unique Leader Records)
Need an adrenaline shot to the dome this weekend? Look no further than New York-based thrash/hardcore act Extinction A.D. It’s chunky, it’s pissed off, and according to the band, it’s all about the bullshit we all face these days.

Persona (Blue Grape Music)
New Jersey, represent! This hardcore outfit from the Garden State is back with a brand new EP, comprised of five new tracks to throw down to. It’s their first offering under Blue Grape Music. Full of piss and vinegar, this one absolutely must be played at maximum volume.
Thotcrime
Connection Anxiety (Prosthetic Records)
Cybergrind/hardcore outfit thotcrime are back with the band’s first new release following last October’s D1G1T4L_DR1FT and the passing of their drummer Dot Homler. You’ll know right away if this is or isn’t for you.
