Ticket Holders Launch Class Action Suit Against Capulet Fest
The disasterous Capulet Fest is just the gift that keeps on giving, kind of like herpes. You’ll remember the festival was billed as a three-day event at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park but when the weekend of the festival came, it was moved at the last minute to The Webster Theater, which was over an hour away. To make things worse, The Webster Theater wasn’t available for the third day of the festival and so that day ended up being cancelled late Saturday night.
According to Lambgoat, ticket holders of Capulet Fest are taking legal action in a class action lawsuit seeking refunds for their tickets from promoter Estevan Vega and Capulet Entertainment, which is his company. That’s likely to be the only way that anyone’s going to see a refund, so it makes sense.
In addition to that, the text of the lawsuit seeks restitution for other financial losses, plus “damages for the emotional distress suffered.” While I certainly agree that the ticket holders deserve their money back, as well as the expenses incurred from the change in venue, but I don’t think anyone suffered emotional distress because they didn’t get to see Taproot.
The lawsuit goes on to say:
“Capulet Fest 2024 (the “Event”) was marred by disorganization, a radical, last-minute venue change, performances that were inexplicably cut short, and the outright cancellation of an entire day of performances, none of which resembled the advertised experience. Furthermore, Defendants have not and show no intention of issuing refunds for tickets and associated expenses, exacerbating the financial losses suffered by attendees.”
An attorney for the ticket holders, Oren Faircloth (which definitely sounds like a name that Trey Parker and Matt Stone would create for a Mormon preacher), commented:
“We believe Capulet Entertainment should be held accountable for its alleged misrepresentations and mishandling of Capulet fest 2024. In our complaint, we are seeking not only financial restitution for the affected attendees but also injunctive relief and punitive damages to enforce transparency and fairness in future event promotions and to ensure that this type of occurrence is not repeated.”
I think it’s safe to say that Capulet Fest 2025 will not be happening. Remember that Connecticut Attorney General William Tong is also launching an investigation into Capulet Fest. This doesn’t sound like it’s going to end well for the organizers.
