Ghost’s Rite Here Rite Now Breaks Hard Rock Cinema Records, Grosses $5.04M Globally
Love ’em or hate ’em, Ghost simply prints money, man. From merch to ticket sales and now to movie releases, Tobias Forge’s brainchild is mighty successful thanks in large part to the rabid fanbase buoying the band’s success. The latest win comes after last weekend’s premiere of Rite Here Rite Now, the sort of Song Remains The Same-style “rockumentary,” which opened internationally and landed in the worldwide Top 10 box office.
Screened in more than 1,800 cinemas across 49 territories, the concert film with story bits mixed in ran from June 20 to June 23 at specific times throughout those days.
According to Trafalgar Releasing, the movie was the ninth highest grossing film internationally, netting $5.04 million despite the limited show times. However, things looked even better in North America, where it became the highest grossing hard rock cinema event ever. In that region, it grossed $2.65 million.
Forge said this outcome was as good as he’d hoped.
“Having wanted to make a movie for most of my life, I was overwhelmed to see the interest our fans showed in the film before it was even released. Now as people seem to have not only seen it, but also seem to dig it… That really gets my motor humming. Thank you all!”
Officials said the movie “reached No. 3 at the June 20 box office with a gross of more than $1.12M and a per-screen average of $1,492 across 755 movie theaters. On June 21, it grossed more than $238K across 366 movie theaters. Continuing its success, it landed at No. 7 at the June 22 box office with a gross of more than $1.03M and a per-screen average of $1,376K across 751 movie theaters. Finally, on June 23, it grossed over $257K and a per-screen average of $718 across 358 movie theaters.”
The movie also did well in the U.K. and Ireland grossing $606,000 at number 5 in the box office, Germany saw the film get to number 3 in its box office after grossing $323,000, and it was number 5 in Mexico’s box office by grossing $326,000.
