The Black Dahlia Murder Announce New Album Servitude, First Single “Aftermath” Out Now

0

Holy shit. That’s all I’ve got for The Black Dahlia Murder‘s latest single “Aftermath.” As the first new song since the untimely death of frontman Trevor Strnad and the first to feature ex-guitarist-turned-vocalist Brian Eschbach, it’s great to witness the band’s continuation in the face of great loss and adversity.

Speaking of what stands before the band now, Eschbach says the future is bright for The Black Dahlia Murder and its fans.

“Before the tragedy, no one ever thought this band was going to exist without Trevor.

“Everyone that’s in the band now is someone that Trevor and I searched for. We spent so much time on the road together that everyone understands the mission statement. We don’t really need to talk about it. We just need to make great music and try to make people happy playing it.”

As you can hear in the video posted below, “Aftermath” is a brick to the solar plexus. It’s a sledgehammer to the senses. Seriously, listen to that and tell me you didn’t at least start headbanging just a little bit.

In addition to the new track, the band unveiled details about their forthcoming 10th studio album Servitude. Set to release on September 27 via Metal Blade Records, the band’s follow up to 2020’s Verminous will feature 10 new tracks.

With this being Eschbach’s first as vocalist and lyricist, and the first to feature guitarist Ryan Knight since 2015’s Abysmal, it’s a major step for both men. Eschbach described what it was like to handle his new role.

“I just had to lean into it hard. Honestly, writing the lyrics for this album was easier for me than writing the music for the three songs that I wrote music for. I’d pick a subject, research it, and just kinda dive in. Even though it’s not something I’d really ever done before, there was a natural flow to it once I started.”

Don’t know how he researched “post-apocalyptic cannibal scenario” for “Aftermath”, but I guess he did it.

Servitude will be released on September 27 via Metal Blade Records, but you can preorder your copy today.
