The Dillinger Escape Plan Played Their First Reunion Show with Dimitri Minakakis and They Kicked Ass
On a sunny day in Pomona, California, the music world got to witness something that at one point felt like an impossibility — The Dillinger Escape Plan got back together and absolutely melted a festival down to its core. The No Values festival this past Saturday saw a lot of sick shit go down, including a Power Trip reunion show and sets from legendary acts like The Jesus Lizard and The Misfits, but from all the footage that’s been coming out from the event, Dillinger fucking brought it.
And of course they had to. It was the band’s first performance since the Greg Puciato-fronted version decided to hang it up in 2017. This time around though, original vocalist Dimitri Minakakis was behind the mic to kick off a run of tour dates to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Calculating Infinity. And as you can see from the clips below, the same old Dillinger energy was still there.
Rounded out by the rest of the band, including founding guitarist Ben Weinman, bassist Liam Wilson, drummer Billy Rymer and guitarist James Love, the band tore through their set with classics like “Sugar Coated Sour” and “43% Burnt”, as well as a covers of Dead Kennedys‘ “California Über Alles” with vocalist Jello Biafra and Minor Threat‘s “In My Eyes” with Suicidal Tendencies‘ Mike Muir.
In an Instagram post after the fact, Weinman thanked a lot of people for the show’s success, including his former bandmate Puciato:
“I really need to thank @dminakakis, @liam_wilson, @billyrymer, #Jameslove, for having me. I’m also super grateful for Greg Puciato and the other Dillinger family members for their dedication in helping build this band into what it is for so many years following #calculatinginfinity. If it were not for him and the other people in the DEP fam, I would have never been able to see my friend Dimitri play in front of this many people. It’s super cool to experience after all these years.”
