Corey Glover on New Living Colour Album: “We’re Trying to Figure Out What Our Mission Statement is for This”

0

In April, Living Colour frontman Corey Glover talked about wanting to get into the studio with the band this month to start working on new material with the hopes of putting out a new album for 2025, following up their 2017 album Shade. But Living Colour are one of those bands who notoriously take a long time to write and record records, so it should be of no surprise that things are taking a little bit longer than planned.

In a recent interview with Myglobalmind, Glover explained that the band are still working on writing the new album and that they’re not looking to rush that. Here’s what he had to say, as transcribed by Blabbermouth:

“We’re still in the writing stage. I think we’re in search of a voice at this point. I think it’s important that we have something to say that’s sort of poignant, particularly in and around this time. If everything was right, this record would have come out this year. But I think scheduling was not in our favor. But I don’t think the world is going to change significantly. And if it does, we’ll talk about it. But for the most part, we’re trying to figure out what our mission statement is for this. And we’re writing it in that regard to sort of jumpstart that process.”

That’s completely fair, especially with Living Colour’s focus on topical issues. Nobody wants a rushed album, or else you end up spitting out some crap that you have the audacity to call Chocolate Starfish. Better to actually put the time and energy needed into a new record.
