Eloy Casagrande on His Slipknot Debut: “Thank You… For Trusting Me”
It’s been a whirlwind of a week or so for Slipknot‘s new drummer, Eloy Casagrande. After making his debut as the band’s new drummer at a special, intimate show at a tiny venue in the middle of the Californian desert, the Brazilian madman behind the kit took to his Instagram page to share his gratitude for the opportunity.
Posted in both English and his native Brazilian Portuguese, Casagrande thanked his new bandmates for giving him the opportunity to join the band and be part of their 25th anniversary at the same time. His entire statement is as follows:
“It’s an exciting moment. Unthinkable until then. There is nothing to lose, there is nothing to win. There is just living. We’re here as one.
“Thank you Slipknot for trusting me. Thanks all the maggots and fans around the world.
“See you on the road. Here comes more pain.”
You may recall, but Casagrande was selected to take the place of former Slipknot and current Suicidal Tendencies drummer Jay Weinberg. That position opened up after the band decided to move on from Weinberg after nearly a decade with Slipknot, citing the need to “make a creative decision” about the band’s future.
Now with Casagrande handling drums, fans have expressed excitement over his skills behind the kit. The dude’s a monster with a pair of drumsticks in hand, thanks to his hyper aggressive playing style. Just watch any clips of him playing anything live and you’re sure to wonder how the hell the drum heads and cymbals are able to withstand how hard he hits everything. And don’t even get me started about his machine-gun-esque double bass — that shit’s nasty.
Slipknot’s got a lot of touring coming up to celebrate the band’s debut self-titled album that came out back in 1999. You can find the full list of tour dates below.
