Auralayer’s “Gelozie” Sounds Like It Wants to Pass You a Joint
Have you ever heard a song that sounds like it just wants to roll a joint and chill for an afternoon? Because if you haven’t, then you’re about to — Greenville, South Carolina, doomy psychedelic trio Auralayer’s latest single “Gelozie” is that song.
Featuring groovy bass, a steady beat, and fuzzy guitars, the track’s got the hallmarks of groovy stoner metal without being monstrously heavy. It all makes for an incredibly catchy two and a half minutes. Think more along the lines of Torche and The Sword, rather than High On Fire or Down. These guys have a sort of big riff style that jams, landing it firmly in the more progressive doom side of things.
Just listening to their music, you can immediately draw up their influences among the doom metal greats. Having those inspirations on their sleeve is pretty much by design, according to guitarist Thomas Powell.
“I’m really into doom, especially bands like High on Fire. Vladimir, the drummer, is really into progressive rock, and his favorite drummer is Neil Peart. And Jake, our bassist, really likes pop music—The Beatles and Talking Heads.”
“Gelozie” is the band’s first new track since they released their debut album Thousand Petals via King Volume Records last July. And if their previous premiere with us “You Walk” is any indication, these guys can also get just as fuzzy, crunchy, and heavy as the next band.
Definitely check out “Gelozie” below. If it’s your kinda jam, then make sure to head over to their Bandcamp and pickup their debut album Thousand Petals today.
