Ex-Saxon Bassist is Headed to Prison for Sexually Abusing a Six Year Old in the ’90s
In today’s bit of “justice is served” news, former Saxon bassist and now convicted sex offender Steve Dawson was sentenced to six years in prison for allegedly sexually assaulting a six year old girl multiple times roughly 30 years ago.
According to BBC News, he was sentenced yesterday at Sheffield Crown Court after he was found guilty of four counts of indecent assault of a child under 14. Immediately following the sentencing, Det. Con. Robert Heath told reporters that while the 72-year-old musician may have “thought he had got away” with his actions, that ended up not being the case.
“It is clear that his evil acts have remained with [the victim] throughout [the victim’s] life, and I hope this sentence goes some way to allowing her to move on from these traumatic events.”
Having played with Saxon from the band’s inception in 1975 until his firing in 1986 over a conflict with his fellow bandmates. He was featured on every Saxon album from their 1979 self-titled debut to their 1985 record Innocence Is No Excuse. He then reunited with Saxon guitarist Graham Oliver in 1996 to start a new band including former Saxon drummers Pete Gill and Nigel Durham called Oliver/Dawson Saxon.
Those days are over though, because this if there’s actual justice in this world, he’ll remain in prison until he’s 78 years old — and if you ask me, that’s still not enough for the kind of pain he allegedly inflicted on a vulnerable little girl all those years ago.
